🌏Climate justice and social justice are two facets of the same issue

Dear colleagues, partners, and friends,

Climate justice and social justice are deeply interconnected and inseparable. Climate justice addresses inequalities worsened by environmental impacts. Social justice tackles systemic disparities that climate change exacerbates. They require inclusive approaches to address systemic inequalities and vulnerabilities.

Commoning current initiatives address both. Two projects are dedicated to advancing disability-inclusive climate action and advocating for legislative changes. A Commoning benchmark maps existing tools to better understand one’s social positioning, privileges and oppressions. Together, these efforts contribute to a more equitable and sustainable future.

Happy equinox,

How to disability inclusive climate action

Recently Commoning happily took on 2 consultancies on disability rights and climate action:

  • Both consultancies aim to document how climate change affects the situation and rights of persons with disabilities, and subsequently advocate for better disability inclusive climate action legislation and practices.
  • A report will map how some European and Central Asian countries have included disability rights in their national climate change legislation – together with the European Disability Forum.
  • A report will look at existing data produced by research and programme on disability rights and climate change from the global South –  together with the BOND Disability and Development Group and International Disability and Development Consortium.

Preliminary findings will be published in the Autum before full release early 2025. Keep posted on LinkedIn!

A Commoning initiative: a benchmark to better understand one’s social privileges and oppressions

Advancing intersectionality begins by exploring the tools that already exist. This benchmark is about:

  • Mapping existing tools and approaches to explore one’s social positioning, privileges and oppressions.
  • Offering insights into these approaches and tools, their uses, benefits, and limitations.
  • Download the PDF version (349 Ko) or Word version (93 Ko)

Do you have other tools to enhance this benchmark? Share them with us at Commoning (info@commoning.co)!
